Sugar Cookies (Mom's Recipe)

Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup melted butter
1 + 1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
4 Tbsp. Milk

4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine all the wet ingredients and stir till smooth. Add the dry ingredients and stir till blended. Roll out dough on a floured surface and use cookie cutters to cut out cookies. Place cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees for 6-8 minutes (until brown around edges). Cool cookies completely and frost with icing.

Tip: You can substitute the shortening with apple sauce for a healthier cookie. Simply replace up to 1/3 cup of the shortening with applesauce. Also it is easier to roll the dough if you chill it in the fridge for 20 minutes, but you don't need to.

Difficulty: Medium
Time to Make: About an hour plus decorating time.
